Chris has many years of experience as a painter and illustrator, working closely with clients to transform their ideas into unique custom artwork. Here is a general overview of how the commission process unfolds.

1. What are your Ideas for the painting?

The process begins with a general conversation about your ideas, then any reference and photos you wish to incorporate are reviewed and discussed. Chris listens to you and takes detailed notes of what you have in mind.

Three ideas were developed from conversations with the client. The 1st is a traditional rendering, 2nd had taffy pieces as a graphic element and the 3rd with red flowers as a design element that are on the sides of the building.

2. What is the right size painting for your idea?

The right size for your painting can be determined by several factors such as the space where the art may hang, how many elements are included, how much detail you want in the subjects of the painting, and what your budget is for the project.

3. What input do you have in the creative process?

Once an understanding of your idea is established, sketches will be developed and presented to you for review and comments. If reference is straight forward such as a photo of a house, a boat, a pet, etc., a sketch or study may be sufficient. If your idea is more complex and involves a variety of components, then several composition layouts may be required to fine tune your concept.

4. How long does it take to complete the artwork?

This will vary depending upon the complexity and size of the piece. A straight forward subject such as a 16”x20” architectural rendering from a photo could be completed within several weeks. An appropriate timeline will be recommend for each project to maintain the best quality artwork.

5. What are the terms of the commission?

The terms are 50% deposit and the balance due upon completion of the artwork. You will be provided a contract with terms and clear timelines - allowing the focus to be on the creative process.
